Public Relations Manager

We are seeking an accomplished and self-motivated public relations professional to help manage the company’s communications programs.
This individual will be responsible for the company’s corporate communications initiatives, with particular emphasis on media relations (consumer, real estate, business), social media, employee communications and community relations. Knowledge of business, personal finance and real estate media is a plus.
This person will also help oversee the public relations team (consisting of staff and agencies/consultants.) This person must also have the ability to work collaboratively with the marketing, SEO and international PR teams to help ensure integrated communications and marketing programs.
The public relations manager role is a key position on HomeAway’s fast-growing PR team, and will report to the director of global public relations.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of the PR plan and implementation of PR strategies and programs
- Help oversee in-house public relations team (3) and outside agency/contractors
- Work with internal teams to identify news opportunities and story angles
- Manage PR timetable and schedule of deliverables
- Write and/or review press releases, pitches and other media collateral with the objective of generating significant print, broadcast and online media coverage
- Develop relationships with key media to generate relevant, on-message press coverage
- Expand existing customer testimonial program (travelers and owners)
- Plan events, tradeshows, conferences and media tours
- Generate reports and develop presentations
- Support Director of Global PR
Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or communications
- 7+ years of PR/media relations experience; real estate and personal finance segments a plus
- Experience supervising staff
- Excellent media relationships, preferably with business, consumer and broadcast media
- Proven success of securing broadcast, print and online coverage for news announcements, features and targeted pitches
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Creative and strategic thinker who can develop story ideas and pitches and target appropriate media for various pitches
- Detail-oriented to help create and manage events, tradeshows, conferences and other activities to support Marketing
- Knowledge of media relations tools (Cision, HARO, ProfNet, My EdCals, Nexis/Factiva, satellite media tours, etc.)
- Ability to work with market analysis research to support and develop story ideas
- Knowledge of and experience implementing social media programs
- Demonstrated ability to balance priorities, manage multiple projects and implement ongoing PR plans
- Ability to make well-informed recommendations
- Resourceful and ability to deliver consistent results
- Strong presentation and research skills
- Some travel required
