Technical Operations Consultant

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of day-to-day technical operations for our busy retail client’s Applications and Systems.  The candidate will be responsible for hands-on 24 x 7 technical operations to improve, maintain and monitor applications to meet Service Level Agreements.


  • Identify and prevent technical issues to maintain performance and availability on behalf of our eCommerce/Retail client systems
  • Analyze the root cause of all incidents, implement permanent fixes and produce necessary documentation
  • Manage critical fixes and help architect industry-leading technical solutions
  • Provide up-front technical guidance for capacity planning, reporting, and software maintenance planning
  • Proactively identify inefficiencies and develop automated processes to improve resource productivity
  • Participate in the planning and execution of all change management activities and application release cycles through testing and production environments
  • Participate in performance testing and tuning exercises


  • Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience


  • Minimum 3-5 years experience working directly with large scale distributed web applications
  • Experience managing large scale Java or JVM based applications; experience with WebSphere Commerce, Oracle Commerce, Hybris, Play/Scala considered an asset
  • Experience with a variety of Search based applications and large volume data processing; experience with Endeca, Solr, ElasticSearch, Akka, Cassandra, Redis considered an asset
  • Experience working with enterprise-level databases, including DB2 and Oracle
  • Experience with Linux administration and shell scripting
  • Exceptional problem determination and troubleshooting skills
  • Hands-on experience with Agile / DevOps using tools including Git, Jenkins, Puppet
  • Hands-on experience with diagnosing JVM performance and tuning
  • Hands-on experience analyzing performance data including system logs and application dumps
  • Hands-on experience with shell scripting and command line operations on Linux and AIX
  • Comfortable working under the pressures of a rapidly changing, complex environments
  • Ability to communicate effectively and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Knowledge of best practices related to security, performance, and disaster recovery
    Knowledge of best practices related to release management and software configuration management
