Education Program Pack-a-Back Intern

POSITION SUMMARY: The Pack-A-Back program offers new backpacks filled with age appropriate school items to children K-12.  Backpacks and supplies are gathered through drives and individual donations.  Parents register in July and backpacks are distributed in August. The Pack-A-Back Intern will help plan, coordinate, oversee, and implement all aspects of the program. This position is unpaid and part of the Essential Services team. The intern reports directly to the team manager.
INTERN BENEFITS: Candidates will develop leadership skills, work in a multi-cultural setting, increase their knowledge of the nonprofit sector and learn volunteer management. Interns get hands-on experience in a large, local busy nonprofit. Internship Program includes an agency orientation, internship team building events and learning sessions to explore the issue of local poverty. The internship is unpaid
  • Lead, coordinate and oversee logistics plan and program implementation with staff
  • Promote and market Pack-A-Back program to increase incoming donations
  • Assist coordination of volunteers on registration, packing, and distribution days
  • Track incoming donations and keep the inventory system updated
  • Some evening and weekend hours required
  • Work a minimum 16 hours weekly and attend Internship Program events
  • Passion for bringing positive change to children and families in economic need
  • Experience in a diverse, multi-cultural, and multi-generational environment
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and pay attention to detail
  • Ability to lift 25-30 pounds
  • Bilingual a plus
