Position Description

This position develops and delivers decision support tools, reporting applications, insights and business intelligence based on advanced analyses and studies to support business development and operational decision-making. This involves extracting, collecting, analyzing and interpreting health, utilization and financial data from many sources to address business questions regarding population health management, health and economic outcomes, quality of healthcare, healthcare program and product design, and other business needs. These activities require advanced technical and analytic skills, knowledge of health care data and information systems, as well as an understanding of health plan operations and care delivery systems.

Candidate Responsibilities

  • Mine, extract and utilize data from the data warehouse to provide analytical, research, reporting, and technical support
  • Analyze source system data and identify business rules and data elements for data transformation/migration into the data warehouse
  • Provide analytic reports that help identify clinical outcomes and quality of care issues, as well as track specified conditions relevant to the clinical management of patients
  • Reports will also support quality improvement projects and measure outcomes of programmatic interventions
  • Assist with data sharing and reconciliation among the various data sets
  • Develop methods for standardizing data collection, database design, validation reports, and analysis
  • Collaborate with client business analysts to source, match and merge data from various source systems
  • Track issues with reports, including defects in object logic, schema logic, data quality problems, and process errors
  • Develop tools for monitoring data quality; assist in development of corrective action plans

Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, actuarial science, etc.
  • Minimum of 1 year of health care experience required
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with database and data analysis technology
  • Strong SQL and/or SAS programming skills
  • Experience using data warehousing tools such as Cognos, Crystal Reports and Microsoft Access; design experience highly desirable
  • Strong organizational, analytical, multi-tasking, documentation, presentation, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form to a widely diverse audience
  • Strong business acumen and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify relationships in data sets, determine key fields, and join and present data unassisted
