We are seeking a Sr Front End Developer to join our client services team. This position will be responsible for ETL, design and technical aspects of bringing a customer onto the Socrata Open Data Platform™, and ultimately through launch. You will work closely with the customer and our account manager to design and build data-driven websites and open data portals, develop data visualizations and applications, and assisting customers in having the biggest possible impact with unique and valuable datasets.

Our customers include high-profile federal, state and local government organizations such as World Bank, the United Nations, State of Oregon, Kenya, Seattle and Chicago. We are a venture-backed startup, with offices in Pioneer Square in Seattle and Washington DC. This role is based in our DC office.

As this position covers a lot of ground and will be among the first contact a new customer has with our team, we are looking for someone who excels at communicating with customer stakeholders, and is not only comfortable with, but eager to grow into new roles on a daily basis. 

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes...

  • Demonstrated proficiency with using HTML/CSS/Javascript/JQuery/AJAX in a production, cross-browser compliant environment

  • Experience working with APIs and moving data from system to system including cleansing, transformation, and loading

  • Experience rapid prototyping / lo-fi tools  (balsamiq, fireworks, any kind of wireframing)

  • Exceptional proficiency with XML and/or JSON

  • Moderate proficiency with at least one programming language (like Java or PHP)

  • Experience with using at least one scripting language (Ruby, Python, Perl, etc.) to manipulate large datasets

  • Experience developing applications using a UI framework is a plus

  • Familiarity with standard design tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

  • Ability to work to customer design specifications, and to work creatively without them when necessary

  • Enthusiasm for and comfort with working directly with customers

  • Experience with web development using a content management system a plus

  • Willingness to learn and apply technical concepts

  • Ability to wear many hats, or at least a good hat rack
