Social Media Intern

Newsweek & The Daily Beast is seeking a dependable, self-motivated, and inquisitive social media intern to join its social media team.

The ideal candidate will be a voracious consumer of news with an in journalism and an obsession with social media. The candidate would be joining a team that’s focused on growing the online readership of our media properties through engagement and experimentation. We want an intern who knows a good meme when they see one, who knows the difference between a retweet and a reblog, sees nothing wrong with naming their child 'Hashtag,' and is excited to work in a newsroom.

Responsibilities:

Assist the social media editor with management of the Newsweek & The Daily Beast’s various social media accounts
Community management
Help us figure out what the heck to do with Pinterest
Come up with exciting new ways we can engage with our readers on the web
Conceive and execute an intern project that utilizes social media in the gathering, reporting, or syndicating of our news
Help editors report on various breaking news events that occur on social media
Track social media for emerging trends or stories for coverage on the website

The ideal candidate will be:

A student with an interest in journalism and social media
Active on Facebook, Twitter, &/or Tumblr
Proficient with Google Docs, Photoshop, & TweetDeck
Up to date on current political and entertainment news
A news fanatic

This intnernship is based exclusively in New York City. To apply, please provide some evidence that you are a creature of the Internet.
