The O'Reilly School of Technology (OST) is a division of O'Reilly Media, Inc. offering online courses and Certificate programs for professional development in Information Technology, Software Engineering, Web Development, Systems and Database Administration. All courses are completely online, self-paced, featuring hands-on practice on real-world projects with one-to-one instructor support and feedback. Our instructors are responsible for every aspect of the student-instructor relationship, which includes encouraging interactive learning skills as well as explaining specifics about a particular programming language. On a daily basis our instructors spend a good percent of their time tailoring open-ended answers to student questions. We use standard grading criteria to evaluate each project, encourage students to go beyond the requirements and are always available to answer questions. This position is a part-time, temporary online position that reports to the Faculty Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Grading student submissions. Mentoring students to discover their own answers to questions. Working with team members to keep courseware up-to-date. Student-instructor communication. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Expert knowledge in Rails Advanced and creative written, verbal and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to take a different approach to education. The ability to work independently. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Four-year degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related area of study, or a combination of relevant education and experience. Additional relevant certifications a plus. 2+ years experience in software or web application development. 2+ year experience as a mentor or trainer. 2+ years experience with Rails or other relevant programming languages
